Start at the beginning
All things have a beginning, and this one, perhaps is humbler than most. Sam and I are diving into this podcast explicitly because we have questions - not answers. We don’t know what we’re doing (perhaps both as fathers, and as podcasters). Hell, we might not even know how to be adult men. But maybe there aren’t attainable answers and certainty for those things.
At least now, on the verge of pressing record for the first time, that’s the idea specifically that I want to try and combat. This notion of a dad who knows what he’s doing and does it with ease literally haunts me. Wouldn’t it be better if we could celebrate our not-knowing instead of languishing in despair about the answers that are unattainable?
As the novel Moby-Dick began with the immortal line, “Call me Ishmael,” we’re also hoping to begin simply with who we are. Fathers wading through the uncertainty and doing our best.
